What it's really like to live with a new baby is sometimes quite a surprise. Becoming a parent and caring for a newborn may present challenges for which we feel unprepared. In this class we will help you prepare for the changes this birth and new baby will bring and give you practical advice on how to make this transition as smooth as possible. Our instructors are experienced postpartum care providers as well as mothers. Topics include:

  • most commonly experienced issues and concerns in the early weeks postpartum
  • coping with sleep deprivation
  • how mom may feel physically in the early weeks
  • changes in dad's life
  • coping with the emotional ups-and-downs: when to ask for help
  • how and where to get education and practical support
  • meeting your own needs
  • changes from week to week as baby grows
  • tips for soothing a fussy baby
Parents are encouraged to bring their individual concerns and questions, as there will be time for discussion and brainstorming. After this 3-hour class, there will be opportunities for further communication with the instructors. Please note: this class does not cover baby care basics. Please take our baby care class for practice with dressing, diapering, and bathing your baby.
